Nutrition Month
Did you know that March is Nutrition Month? If you didn’t, don’t worry, now you do and you can embrace it. Make time for your health despite the craziness of the month:
- Preparing for quarter-end. At this time, people are busy at work reporting earnings/losses to the financial departments and planning for new business, purchases, and objectives for the second quarter.
- It’s spring break time. Most schools observe spring break at the end of the month, which means kids will be off school and there will be time for a quick vacation. With planning, budgeting, and free time at a minimum, nutrition is put on the back burner.
- Fast food advertisements are everywhere. With the nice weather approaching the mid-west, people start becoming more active outside. Playgrounds and parks get utilized, baseball, softball, and soccer leagues start forming, and fast food companies start advertising more. Fast food companies advertise to those with fast and active lives, so out of convenience, it’s easy to take the bait. However, these options usually don’t offer the proper nutrition that we need.
As Americans, we forget about the simplicity of life and we make living a healthy lifestyle harder than it really is. Our lives are full of STRESS, POOR EATING HABITS, and very little PHYISCAL ACTIVITY. Combine all three and you have a recipe for disaster which will lead to a higher risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, depression, and obesity.
Be aware of nutrition and your health. Can you answer “YES” to these questions?
- Do you have healthy eating habits?
- Are you eating at least 3 whole grains each day?
- Do you regularly eat about 2.5 cups of veggies?
- Do you regularly eat at least 2 cups of fruit a day?
- Do you vary your protein to include beans and nuts and fish and keep it all lean or low in fat?
- Are you at a healthy BMI, blood pressure level, and cholesterol level?
- Do you practice relaxation techniques to decrease stress?
If not, you need to really take a look at what you are eating, how you can better your choices, how to decrease stress in your life, and how to get more physical activity in your lifestyle.
